Tool 3 · Recurring discounts

Weekly, every two weeks or monthly: what each discount really costs.

Regular houses are quicker to clean, which is what pays for the discount. Monthly houses build up more dirt between visits, so the same discount can cut your hourly rate. Put in how long each visit really takes.

Not sure of the hours? Time your next visits. One cleaner’s rule of thumb: a 3-hour biweekly clean is a 4 to 5-hour monthly clean.

How the plans are compared

Per hour

per hour = (price − trip cost) ÷ (visit hours + drive time)

Drive time counts because you sit in the car for every visit, whether it’s weekly or monthly.

Price at the one-time rate

fair price = trip cost + one-time rate × (visit hours + drive time)

The most you can take off and still earn what a one-time clean pays. A minus percentage is room for a discount; a plus means the plan needs to cost more than a one-time clean.

Per month

Weekly is 52 visits a year (4.33 a month), every 2 weeks is 26 (2.17 a month), monthly is 12. A weekly client at a lower price per visit can still be your best client by the month, as long as the hourly rate holds.
